European industry welcomes Commission order of registration of imports of silico-manganese welding wire from China

EU producers of silico-manganese welding wire (SMWW) welcome an important step the Commission took today in its anti-dumping (AD) investigation of SMWW imports from China (AD746).

By means of Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/297, the Commission has directed EU Member State customs authorities to register all SMWW imports from China as of 11 February 2026.

This is a critical milestone in the proceedings opened on 11 December 2025 following a complaint by the EU industry. As noted in the Regulation, the purpose of registration is to ensure that anti-dumping duties, if any, can be levied retroactively on the imports subject to registration if the necessary conditions are met.  EU importers of SMWW now need to consider the potential implications of registration in their sourcing strategies.

The EU SMWW producers thank the European Commission for this step and all its efforts to re-establish a level playing field on the EU market. If you have any further question concerning the Commission’s AD investigation, please contact Guy MISSIAEN (guy.missiaen@european-welding.org).
