Silico-manganese welding wire from China – EWA welcomes imposition of provisional anti-dumping measures
Brussels, 11 August 2026 – On 11 August 2026, after eight months of investigation, the European Commission imposed provisional anti-dumping duties of up to 102.4% on imports of silico-manganese welding wires (SMWW) from China.
EWA highly appreciates this action of the European Union against unfair imports from China.
The Commission’s findings clearly show that Chinese producers of SMWW have engaged in dumping practices that have caused material injury to the EU industry. The imposition of provisional AD measures is therefore essential to re-establish a level playing field, to preserve European jobs, and to foster growth in the EU.
“We very much appreciate the European Commission’s decision to impose provisional AD measures. The EU welding wire industry is an important and integral part of the EU industrial supply chain. In recent years, a flood of unfairly priced imports from China caused the EU industry’s utilisation rates to drop to alarming levels of just around 50%, as confirmed by the Commission’s findings. This is not only highly problematic for our companies, but also negatively affects the EU supply chain and EU users of welding wire which are under severe risk of losing their EU supply sources”, says the general manger of EWA.
The provisional anti-dumping duties will apply until 10 February 2027, by when the Commission and Member States must decide whether to impose the anti-dumping duties definitively.
The imposition of definitive AD measures is essential to restoring the level playing field on the EU market and safeguarding the future of the EU industry. EWA and the EU industry will therefore continue to cooperate fully with the Commission during the remainder of the proceedings.
